Asbestos management plans can vary widely from building to building and site to site but should always contain such items as; Action plans, organisational chart of who is responsible for the management of the asbestos-containing materials, arranging of annual asbestos re-assessment surveys, priority risk assessments and material assessments, emergency procedures, asbestos register, details of planned or actual asbestos removal and always have the information on-site to provide to any contractors or maintenance workers. This list is by no means exhaustive but gives a general idea of the requirements over and above the actual asbestos survey.
Although the first reported cases of asbestos-related health problems can be found as far back as the 1930s. It was not until the 1980s that direct action was taken on its usage. Firstly by a voluntary ban followed by legislation and eventual total ban in 1999. For these reasons, it is essential that asbestos located in any building. The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 only specifies requirements for Non-Domestic premises constructed before 1999.
